Spanish shouldn’t feel like a barrier

Falling behind in class.
Studying without real understanding.
Freezing when it’s time to speak.

For many students and professionals, Spanish becomes a source of stress instead of opportunity.

It doesn’t have to stay that way.

About me.

INSPIRED BY DIFFERENCE.

Dylan Anderson-Berens grew up in Boston and began studying Spanish at age 13, inspired by his mother and sisters. A semester abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico — his first deep immersion into Latin American culture — left him enchanted by the region. He has been returning ever since and now prepares others to connect meaningfully.

He earned a BA in International Development with a focus on Latin American Political Economy, and a Master’s degree from Tufts University’s Friedman School in International Development and Food Systems.

The real education happened in the field. Since 13, Dylan has spent an accumulative 10 years living and working across Latin America — managing UN and World Economic Forum programs in Colombia, Peru, and Panama; teaching English to children and adults in Mexico and Peru; and building farms and rural development projects in the Andes.

He has consulted on corporate sustainability and strategy for multinational food companies in capitals and managed rural nonprofit operations across the region — always in Spanish, always embedded in communities from the boardroom to villages.

He knows firsthand what it means to prepare for — and then navigate — the culture shock of arriving somewhere new. Having done it repeatedly across different countries and contexts, he now helps his students do the same: building not just language skills, but the cultural fluency and confidence to truly excel.

As a TEFL-certified educator with experience teaching thousands of students across all ages and levels, Dylan brings rare depth to his tutoring practice. He knows what it means to struggle in a language — and what it takes to make it stick.

Today, he channels three decades of fluency and ten-plus years of immersion into personalized, results-driven Spanish tutoring for students and professionals in Washington, DC and nationwide via Zoom.

“Three decades of fluency. Ten years across Latin America. From the classroom to the boardroom.”

How I Teach

My approach is designed to help students build lasting fluency by connecting language
learning with culture, real-world application, and personal motivation.

1. Personalized Diagnostic

Flexible, pay-as-you-go support

Every student begins with a diagnostic session to identify:

  • 1
    Current level
  • 2

    Learning style

  • 3

    Academic or professional goals

  • 4

    Gaps and opportunities

This allows us to build a fully customized learning plan.

2. Identifying Learning Blocks

Many students struggle not because of ability, but because of specific learning barriers.

I identify and address:

  • 1

    Confidence gaps

  • 2

    Ineffective study habits

  • 3

    Structural misunderstandings

Removing these barriers accelerates progress.

3. Cultural & Contextual Learning

Language and culture are inseparable.

I integrate:

  • 1

    Music

  • 2

    Film

  • 3

    Current events

4. Real-World Application

Students practice Spanish in contexts that matter to them:

I integrate:
